The fact that the ancestors of Andre Brunel began producing wine in the 17th century is evidenced by the acquisition of a grape plot from the Bishop of Avignon to the north of the appellation in the regions history books and plot allocation register.
Many generations continued to work in the vineyards, but it wasn't until 1954 that Lucien Brunel came up with the name "Les Cailloux" to grow the company and advertise the Domaine's unique traits and wine qualities. It was known as the Domaine Les Cailloux from here on in.
André Brunel acquired control of the Domaine in 1971. His never-ending drive led to the Domaine's fast expansion, including the repurchase of Côtes du Rhône and Vins de Pays grapes and the 1989 release of the infamous Centenary Cuvée. He was also one of the first in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to adopt the ground covering method and to move forward with a non-chemical method of wine farming, which led to some significant advances in the vine management process.
His son Fabrice Brunel joined the team in 2012 to carry on the family tradition.
