When you're first, you're always first. Sanford Winery developed Santa Barbara's first experimental vineyards in 1971. The Sanford and Benedict Vineyard was planted, and by cuttings from this vineyard, this renowned cool climate AVA was expanded to neighbouring plantings.

The oldest Pinot Noir vines in the county are found in this renowned vineyard, which has been the benchmark for excellence in the area for more than 40 years.

The Sanford and Benedict and La Rinconada Ranches, as well as its vineyards, are part of the estate, which is currently owned, farmed, and maintained by the Terlato family.
