El Tiznado comes from a south-west facing vineyard planted in 1923 with closely-spaced Tempranillo vines showing great genetic diversity thanks to the 'massale' selection originally employed The shallow sandy soil originated from the weathering of calcareous sandstone, and there is notable presence of iron oxides Cuentavinas was founded by Eduardo Eguren and Carlota Gonzalez: fifth generation of the illustrious Eguren family, pre-eminent name in the wine world, which has accrued savoir-faire over the decades through such prestigious projects as Sierra Cantabria, Vinedos de Paganos and Teso la Monja Eduardo felt the need to remain near San Vicente de la Sonsierra, town of his fathers, so with the characteristic patience required for anything that needs to be developed slowly, he and Carlota went on innumerable sorties to scour the local districts at the foot of El Tolono (mountain) to seek something that would fill them with enthusiasm In the miniscule village of Pecina, they found the essence of what they were searching for Like a journey to a wonderful old tale, its few streets preserve the essence of the past, with restored wine presses and and few, but beautiful, ancient stone houses They also found the perfect link to the family's history, since Edu's maternal grandfather was nicknamed 'el pecinero' It is not clear if they chose the place, or the place chose them

The heady aroma is both powerful and pretty with notes of fennel, purple flowers and blossom mingling with ripe, varietal purple fruits and black pepper The oak is hardly evident which allows fruit and soil complexities to emerge with edges of rhubarb and red mulberry and savoury characters of dried herbs, game and spice The palate opens with anise, black pepper, graphite and restrained dark cherries before it gives way to seductive mulberry, plum, liquorice and spice It has great power, depth and length with very vibrant, gritty fruit tannins providing immense structure Notes of anise and spice linger for a long time after the last sip The Dead Arm 2008 strikes a rare balance of power, complexity and finesse with impressive structure that will reward those with patience to cellar it

Deep red color This wine displays vibrant aromas of blueberries, notes of baking spice and pepper, with floral and spicy notes The acidity is intense and balanced The oak is beautifully blended with elegant, fine-grained tannins A subtle minerality provides freshness and good length

Nebbiolo, Piedmont's royal grape, from the Langhe, dizzyingly fragrant with dried roses and dried geraniums, followed by a soft, full-bodied mouthful of red fruit

A Malbec with great elegance and class With serious concentration of black fruit and liquorice on the nose and good structure in the mouth, it has excellent acidity that gives it a unique freshness

Classic Carmenere produced in the extreme conditions of the Elqui Valley Deep red with a clear rim Very sweet ripeness on the nose, possibly red gooseberry jam and a hint of green pepper Ripe fruit on palate with soft texture

Abadia Retuerta's Syrah is a single vineyard wine from their low yielding vines in Sardon de Duero The wine has an intense dark purple hue and a peppery nose with hints of warm beetroot, freshly turned earth and forest fruits The full bodied palate has aromatic notes of violet and smoke that accompany the concentrated fruit flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant and plum The silky tannins provide an excellent balance to the intense, creamy textures of this seductive wine

Le Relais de Durfort Vivens is the chateau's wine designed to provide drinking enjoyment immediately, as well as having medium-term cellaring potential It has a deep violet-purple colour, black and red fruit aromas, with mineral and woody notes It is rich-textured, with velvety, supple tannin structure In 1937 the estate was bought by the company owning Chateau Margaux, whose main shareholder at that time was the Lurton family In 1961 Lucien Lurton, a great lover and protector of wine-producing terroirs, acquired and restored this exceptional vineyard In 1992, his son Gonzague inherited the property He modernized its operation with a view to developing the terroir s unique qualities
