Antonio Benedetto Carpano, the proprietor of a wine tavern on the Piazza Castello in the heart of Turin, launched the company in 1786. It belongs to the collective of Fratelli Branca.
Carpano is produced in the Piedmond region of Italy using base wines from Sicily, Puglia, and Romagna.
Stronger wines from southern Italy are frequently added to the base of Piedmont Moscato wines to create a dark aromatic character. The mixture of the wine base and the all-natural caramelised sugar gives it its colouring.
