The wines of Chateau de Villegeorge were particularly well-known in the 18th century for being of comparable quality to the crus that would be designated third in 1855. The Clauzel family purchased the estate in 1880 and transformed it into a classic vineyard.
When a group of Bordeaux traders developed the Crus Bourgeois classification in 1932, Chateau de Villegeorge was designated Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. In 1966, its classification was confirmed.
The quality of its deep bass did not escape Lucien Lurton, who purchased this vintage in 1973 and restored it. In 1992, after splitting his estates, he gave Chateau de Villegeorge to his daughter, Marie-Laure. She has been vinifying this estate as an oenologist since 1986.
A first phase of development was completed in 1997, allowing for the extension of the vat room as well as the installation of an effluent purification unit. Work resumed at the end of 2007 to allow for the enlargement of the barrel basement, modernization of harvest receiving, and lastly the building of a welcome room.
