Since the 18th century, the Durand family has controlled the seven hectare Chateau La Fleur Grands-Landes estate in the Montagne neighbourhood.
M. Carrère, Mme Durand's husband, acquired control of the estate in 1969 and gave it its current look. After 10 years of teaching viticulture and oenology, his daughter Isabelle Carrère, an oenologist on Michel Rolland's team, took over management of the estate in 1997.
The Chateau La Fleur Grands-Landes vines are raised in clay soils on slopes. Debudding, hand pruning of vine shoots, leaf thinning, and green harvesting are just a few of the meticulous management practices used throughout the year in the vineyards. Instead of using chemical fertilisers, compost made from plants is slowly applied to the soil after being aware of its equilibrium.
To obtain a better phenolic flavour, a hand harvest is performed when the grapes are just a little bit overripe.
