For thirty years, Peterson Winery has been making wine in Dry Creek Valley. Like most wineries in the Valley, it makes both Zinfandel and other types of wine. But a closer glance reveals that's the extent of their resemblance.

Owner Fred Peterson is an iconoclast with a devotion to organic farming and an old-world approach to winemaking. The Peterson method aims to create wines of a place, wines with soul, by capturing the essence of the vintage and vineyard using low-tech, high-touch winemaking processes. They call this idea Zero Manipulation.

When Jamie, Fred's son, was hired as an assistant winemaker in the summer of 2002, the development of Peterson wines and winemaking quickened.

Jamie was assigned the overall duties of winemaker in 2006 after relocating from the modest red barn on Lytton Springs to Timber Crest Farms.

As the growing season progresses, Fred and Jamie evaluate the grapes from each vineyard and vintage as a winegrowing team, considering how the site, soil, and weather are interacting for the specific vintage.
