Stolichnaya vodka is prepared from rye and wheat grains. It was created in 1938 in the Soviet Union.

The vodka comes in two varieties; the one that is sold outside of Russia is produced in Latvia, while the one that is sold inside Russia is produced there.

The ownership of Stolichnaya has been in dispute since the fall of the Soviet Union between the Luxembourg-based SPI Group and the Russian state-owned corporation FKP Soyuzplodoimport.

Since 2022, SPI Group has commercialised its variant under the name Stoli.
