Brandino Brandolini d'Adda has been in charge of the Vistorta estate, which has 220 hectares of property surrounding the villa, since 1980.
Following a first wine-making experience at another family-owned estate, Chateau Greysac in Bordeaux, and a graduate in Agricultural science at Texas A&M University, Brandino planned a renovation of the Vistorta estate along the French model, concentrating on one great red wine.
The choice of Merlot, a varietal originating in Bordeaux and introduced to Friuli a century ago, was not decided by chance, and it was ideally suited to the "terroir" of the Vistorta.
The goal was to establish a large number of plants per hectare, roughly 4,000/5,000 plants with a poor fruit yield per plant. These precise activities enable for the harvesting of healthy, mature, and homogeneous grapes by the end of September, before the autumn rains.
The vinification equipment is housed in an 18th century winery, where cutting-edge oenological technology are applied.
