The Aglianico (pron; alli-yawn-nico) grape produces full-bodied red wines, and is virtually entirely produced in the southern Italian provinces of Campania and Basilicata.

Young Aglianico wines have distinct flavours of leather, white pepper, black fruits, and cured meat; as they age, however, they take on softer, dustier scents of dried figs and leather that has been exposed to the sun.

High intensity meal pairings benefit from the Aglianico's structure. The strong acidity complements barbecue sauces beautifully.
