Champagne Perrier-Jouet Wines from Great Wines Direct.
In 1811, Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adelaide Jouet founded the Perrier-Jouet Champagne house. While most Champagne houses were founded in or near Reims, Perrier-Jouet was established in Epernay, which is located in the Cote des Blancs, the region of Champagne and produces the majority of the Chardonnay grapes used in the classic Champagne blends.
Perrier-Jouet acquired sizeable plots of land in the now well-established Avize and Cramant areas of the Epernay region because they were the first Champagne producers to fully appreciate the style and quality of the Chardonnay grape as part of the blend in Champagne, where it adds delicacy, freshness, and creamy liveliness. The founders continued to be inventive by being the first to identify a single vintage and a single vineyard (cru) on the label in 1858, recognising the distinctiveness and high calibre of particular years and regions.
The business chose to create an exceptional and very good Champagne to match the exquisite beauty of the bottles discovered, with their whirling Japanese white anemone blooms, which wonderfully reflected the atmosphere and elegance of the turn of the century. Soon after, Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque was reintroduced to coincide with Duke Ellington's 70th birthday celebration at Paris' renowned Alcazar restaurant. The name has long been connected to music and art.
