Quality Viognier is always associated with the Vernay name. When there were only 8 hectares of vine-covered land remaining in the Condrieu appellation in the 1960s, Georges Vernay (1926-2017) played a crucial role in preventing its extinction.

The Vernays have put forth a lot of effort to promote Viognier, and they are primarily to thank for its present resurgence and surge in popularity around the world. In 1997, Christine Vernay assumed control of the winemaking operations at this location. She is supported in estate management by her husband Paul Amsellem.

At Condrieu, the Vernays currently farm 7.5 hecatres of vines, placing them among the top 3 volume growers (with Cuilleron & Guigal).

Many people consider Domaine Georges Vernay to be one of the best places to buy Condrieu. They also make a fantastic Vin de Pays Viognier from vines called 'Le Pied de Samson' that grow at higher elevations, as well as an impressive selection of red wines that includes a fruity Vin de Pays Syrah, Saint Joseph, and Côte Rôtie.
