Knowledgeable oenologists Vasilis Laderos and Kalliope Volitaki established the Idaia Winery in 1998. Idaia is located in Venerato, a charming small village in the centre of the island of Crete's Dafnes appellation, right in the middle of the Malevizi province vineyard.

They are a family-run winery with 2.5 hectares of their own vineyards, but they also buy grapes from a number of Dafnes PDO growers with whom they have a history of working. Idaia specialises in Crete's native grape types.

They primarily grow the white Thrapsathiri, Vilana, and Vidiano, as well as the red Kotsifali, Liatiko, and Mandilaria grapes, with the goal of showcasing their wines to reflect the terroir on which the grapes are grown.
