Ropiteau Freres
Ropiteau Freres fine wines from Great Wines Direct.
Jean Ropiteau founded his own wine merchant house in 1848 after the railway arrived in Meursault. This young guy, whose family is of Burgundian descent and whose origins extend back to the sixteenth century, recognised at an early age of twenty-four that he would be able to use this new mode of transportation to spread the word about Burgundian wines.
Throughout the 20th century, the winery grew while staying true to its principles. The current Meursault cellars and a property in the Hospice de Beaune were bought by Jean's great-grandson, Auguste Ropiteau, in 1940. He paid a low amount for the property because fine wine sales were not very good at the time. This was a huge hit, and the Ropiteau name quickly came to be associated with the "Grand Mersault."
Ropiteau Frères has developed a unique patchwork of some of the best lots, or "climats," in the Golden Triangle, and has become an authority on the Côte de Beaune, particularly in Meursault. The wines from this esteemed terroir have all the characteristics of outstanding Burgundy, displaying the subtleties of the climats.
