Abadia Retuerta Pago Garduna Syrah 2018 75cl

Meinert Syrah 'The Graduate' 2019 75cl
£24.00
A very attractive Syrah, with an exciting bouquet of lilies, cloves and cream Delicate and nuanced on the palate, it's more than a little reminiscent of Pinot Noir - not heavy, but with lots to unfold and savour It could in theory last 5-10 years, but it's so irresistible now that it probably won't get the chance The label does not say so due to South African wine regulations, but this is in fact a single-vineyard wine from a cool site in Hemel-en-Aarde The local climate means that ripening happens extremely late every year: around two weeks after all of Meinert's other fruit The highly extended growing season results in the wine's beautiful delicacy and fabulous intricacy of flavour Superb!

Swinney Farvie Syrah 2021 75cl
£78.91
An awe-inspiring wine with the aroma of Hermitage and the texture of Richebourg, Farvie Syrah is a selection of fruit picked exclusively from the 'morning' side of the vine rows, which ripens more slowly and gently than fruit exposed to the afternoon sun Whortleberry, aronia and purple grape lead into nuances of clove, star anise, stargazer lily, musk, leather and iron as it opens in the glass In the mouth, it is super-refined, intense and concentrated in flavour; with gorgeous soft succulence of texture There is a sprinkling of powdery tannin - discernible but utterly delicate Undoubtedly a great wine, it would be intriguing to watch this evolve for 15 years or longer - but oh, it's so irresistible already Utterly harmonious

Swinney Frankland River Syrah 2021 75cl
£28.27
As soon as you take a sip, it's apparent why this is named 'Syrah' and not 'Shiraz:' it has a freshness and finesse that is far more closely allied to the Rhone valley than to the Barossa or McLaren Vale With an impressively glass-staining black colour, it has glorious, soaring, damson and loganberry fruit, a sprinkling of Chinese five spice, and fine marzipan and cherry kernel notes Adding substance to the fruit and spice character, there is a certain juicy rare steak quality to it - un vrai Syrah! On the palate it shows superb, super-silky, sensuous smoothness that at first disguises its downright depth and density As with the other Swinney wines, it's full of freshness, sophistication, beautiful balance and persistence on the palate There is a tiny hint of oak character, so skillfully integrated that you scarcely notice

Petit Roubie Syrah 2021 75cl
£10.96

Kleinood Tamboerskloof John Spicer Syrah 2016 75cl
£66.38
It's structured and balanced, with a beautiful garnet colour with a magenta rim and a deep intensity The nose develops with medium, but pronounced intensity, showing pure ripe plum, maraschino cherries, mixed spice with a hint of cedar and cinnamon On the palate, the wine is loaded with cassis, garrigue and meaty flavours and ends with a white pepper finish The wine finishes in a medium plus body with great depth of flavour, elegant structure and firm, grainy tannins

Swinney Farvie Syrah 2020 75cl
£78.91
An awe-inspiring wine with the aroma of Hermitage and the texture of Richebourg, Farvie Syrah is a selection of fruit picked exclusively from the 'morning' side of the vine rows, which ripens more slowly and gently than fruit exposed to the afternoon sun With an exuberant, fruit-forward nose, this smells of plump, juicy, utterly yummy blackberries at perfect ripeness Take a sip, and it is succulent and scrumptious, with almost-hidden tannins that just peek through on the finish This is so delicious that it doesn t need time, but it should evolve beautifully if given the chance Drink 2023-2034+
