One of Greece's most significant and well-respected wines is the red Xinomavro wine produced in the Naousa region. Since it was created in 1971, the Naousa Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) has required the use of only Xinomavro grapes.

Because of the wine's high acidity and tannin content and potential similarity to Nebbiolo-based wines, good specimens age well and are frequently compared to Italy's renowned Barolo. The grape is frequently used with Negoska in Goumenissa to create highly fruity wines with high alcohol content.

Xinomavro is probably the most widely grown grape varietal in Greece and can be found everywhere, so if you are looking to start your journey into Greek wines, then this is a great place to start.
