While touring the Rhone Valley in the late 1980s, Andrew Murray fell in love with the new Rhone varietals Syrah and Viognier. He abandoned his UC Berkeley palaeontology studies in favour of an internship at an Australian winery in order to pursue his newfound passion for Syrah.

Andrew Murray then returned to the US and graduated from UC Davis with a bachelor's in viticulture and oenology. He later started his own winery and vineyard in Santa Ynez.

The natural splendour, climate, soils, and geography of Santa Barbara County, which reminded Andrew of the Rhone Valley, brought him and his family there.

The result of Andrew's concentration and commitment to his craft is what Robert Parker Jr. refers to as "...one of the shining stars in the Santa Barbara firmament." 

Andrew continues to be the same modest, personable, and reflective person he was when he initially started his wine journey in Australia back in 1992, despite several honours.

His sparkling, delicate wines are evidence that he is steadfastly dedicated to vinicultural "Kaizen," the tireless pursuit of continual improvement. He is Sustainability In Practise (SIP) certified.
