The Grupo Covias tale began in 1965 in the Valencian town of Requena, when ten local cooperatives banded together to establish a distillery. Covias began as a second-degree cooperative, or a large cooperative, bringing together ten cooperatives from Requena and the surrounding area, including Villargordo del Cabriel and Venta del Moro.

Throughout this time, it has continued to upgrade its facilities and acquire cutting-edge technologies.

Bodegas Covias was named World's Best Cooperative Winery by DWM, under the patronage of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), the UIOE (International Union of Oenologists), and the World Federation of International Wine Competitions.
