Bodegas Monóvar, one of the most prominent wineries in the province of Alicante, is comprised of vines of the Monastrell, Riesling, and Syrah varieties that are situated in the heart of a breathtaking Levantine landscape. 

Its interior contains century-old monovero barrels of the renowned Fondillón de Alicante wine, an actual jewel of oenology in the Alicante Designation of Origin. Due to their quantity, tradition, and quality, soleras are the oldest and most distinguished varieties of unique wine that have been produced for more than five centuries.

As evidenced by countless allusions by, among others, Shakespeare, Dumas, Azorin, Dostoyevsky, or Defoe, the mythological Fondillón de Alicante, one of the few wines with a Royal Denomination, attained immense notoriety across the world under the name of Alicante wine. However, it virtually vanished from the market by the end of the 19th century due to the phylloxera outbreak.
