Adolfo de las Heras Marn, who was passionate about winemaking, formed Bodegas y Viedos de Utiel in 1985 after purchasing Finca El Renegado, one of the estates in the Valencian Region with the highest ecological and oenological value.

The vineyard of the finca is 80 percent native Bobal grapes, and the vines are more than 50 years old. The finca also has a forest.

Adolfo was also among the first vintners in the region to produce high-quality wine. When Adolfo de las Heras Polo, his son, took charge in the late 1990s, he followed this attitude and transformed the winery. 

He started making wines that spent more time maturing in barrels made of various French oaks, giving Bodegas Nodus' wines more complexity and uniqueness.

The wines bearing the appellation "El Renegado" pay homage to the estate's centuries-old Holm oak trees. The organic wine exemplifies the Bobal varietal in its purest form.
