Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Fay Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 75cl
£164.62
This single-vineyard wine has characteristic black morello cherry, raspberry leaf, sun-baked earth, powdered slate and graphite aromas On the palate its plushness and sophistication are immediately apparent, and the tannins are gorgeously soft and silky With its fabulous purity and length of flavour, this is utterly delicious, however it is only going to get better over the next two decades, so resist the temptation to open all your bottles straight away! This is a wine of honesty and directness, capturing vividly a particular summer at a particular, magical, place The vineyard was planted by Nathan Fay in 1961 and existed as a separate property until 1986, when it was purchased by Stag s Leap Wine Cellars Tasting Fay's homemade wine from here was the eureka moment that made Warren Winiarski determined to purchase the neighbouring land, which became Stag s Leap Vineyard Although next door to SLV, the soil is different: composed primarily of grey alluvium from the creek that runs alongside The wines from the two sites are also quite distinct, which is why they are bottled separately
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 75cl
£304.99
The awesome 2019 Cask 23 boasts Fay's finesse, harnessed to the warmth and weight of SLV It takes some time in the glass to give much away, but with patience it reveals a wonderful, subtle, ripe sweetness alongside beefy heft While ripe, it is definitely not overripe, and expresses a minty character, so typical of First and Second Growths from Pauillac or Saint-Estephe Beautifully complete and balanced, it is powerful, succulent and delicious, with plush-textured tannins It will be very tempting to start guzzling this soon, but it's worth waiting a few years at least Drink 2027-2050+ Originally named after a barrel whose contents was of such exceptional quality that it was bottled as a separate wine, Cask 23 later became a complimentary combination of some of the finest parts of the SLV and Fay vineyards While all the Stag's Leap estate wines boast impressive cellaring capability, this 'Napa First Growth' in particular requires keeping several years to show its best
