Since the 18th century, the Durand family has controlled the seven hectare Chateau au Pont de Guitres estate in the Montagne neighbourhood. M. Carrère, Mme Durand's husband, acquired control of the estate in 1969 and gave it its current look.
After 10 years of teaching viticulture and oenology, his daughter Isabelle Carrère, an oenologist on Michel Rolland's team, took over management of the estate in 1997.
The plots, which are situated on sandy gravelly clay soils and are positioned on the best terroirs of the Chateau au Pont de Guitres, yield wines with good ageing potential. The vines are planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare and produce 48 hectoliters of wine per hectare.
The vines have an average age of 15 years. They are pruned using conventional Bordeaux pruning techniques.
In order to respect the land and its environment, the Chateau au Pont de Guitres vineyard is grown in accordance with la lutte raisonnée, which encourages sustainable farming practises and lowers the use of pesticides. When the grapes are at their peak maturity, harvesting begins.
