In 1996, winemaker and oenologist Xavier Milhade bought Château Boutisse. Since 1938, the Milhade family has been producing wine in the Libournais region.
Today, Chateau Boutisse is run by Elodie and Marc, Xavier's children. One of the top communes in AOC St-Emilion, Saint Christophe des Bardes, is where it is situated.
With 25 hectares, it is a sizable estate for St-Emilion and is primarily Merlot-planted. Since 1996, there have been significant expenditures made in the vineyards, resulting in the total replanting of various grape lots.
Excellent terroir can be found at Chateau Boutisse; when the soil was ripped and made ready for planting, big chunks of the limestone could be seen beneath the topsoil of chalky clay.
Chateau Boutisse acquired the honour of being reclassified as Grand Cru Classé in 2022 after receiving the HVE3 certification for sustainability.
