Near Lussac St. Emilion, the spotless Chateau Julien has 21 hectares of vines, including four hectares of Bordeaux red. The present owner, who bought the property from the family who had previously owned the Château for three generations, has made considerable investments in the vineyard and cellars.
They work closely with creative winemaker Ludovic Labarrere, who vinifies with egg-shaped fermenters and creates delicately styled Bordeaux wines, to responsibly cultivate the vines.
The Chateau Julien vines are grown responsibly, with grass planted in between the rows to stabilise the soil, decompress it, and allow the vine roots to penetrate deeply into the soil. The vineyard's sandy and muddy soils provide the wine delicate tannins, roundness, and delicacy.
To concentrate the flavour in the berries, the yields are carefully managed.
