Château Talbot can be seen in the distance, surrounded by a sea of vines, gardens, and tall trees, from the Saint-Julien plateau.
The estate has a lengthy past. It takes its name from Connétable Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, who served as both the governor of Guyenne and a renowned English military leader who was routed in the Battle of Castillon in 1453.
Château Talbot was elevated to a fourth classed growth of Saint-Julien in 1855, when Emperor Napoleon III ordered the classification of the Médoc and Graves growths. It belonged to the Marquis of Aux for a number of years before Désiré Cordier bought it in 1918.
