Ramón Bilbao has only recently arrived in Ribera del Duero. The Duero River runs through this wine-growing region in Castile-León, and it underwent remarkable development in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming one of Spain's best-known wine regions.

Bilbao also purchased vines near the towns of Peafiel and Roa and developed the Cruz de Alba concept. This denotes a fruity, delicate, and extremely modern Ribera del Duero wine with plenty of concentration and a velvety texture.

The plan succeeded from the start, and the Spanish wines of Cruz de Alba were a huge success, winning numerous international honours.
