Valérie and Dominique Ibanez started a new adventure in September 2001 when they built the Domaine de Roquemale from the ground up in Villeveyrac, Languedoc. They started to tame their 13 hectares of vines and master the art of vinification after becoming seduced by the terroir, the exposure of the vineyard, and the potential of the grape varietals.

The name Roquemale, which means 'Bad Rock' in patois, has turned out to be a blessing from the terroir because of the poor soils' low yields of about 30hl/ha of intensely concentrated grapes. 

The Roquemale terroir is an alchemy of scorching sun, chilly evenings brought on by the Thau lagoon and Mediterranean Sea nearby, the aromatic garrigue that surrounds the vineyards, and the limestone-bauxite soils.
