Early Christian martyr Saint Damien was revered as the patron saint of physicians and was killed in the year 287 A.D. Joel Saurel, the owner of the estate, lives in the little hamlet of La Baumette, which is close to the village of Gigondas, and there is a church there that was constructed in his honour.

The name Saint Damien was added to the domain's name in 1979. Since 1821, four generations have worked on the family estate, and in 2013, Romain started working there with his father. Since 2012, it has held an organic certification.
