In Patagonia, Argentina's most southern wine-producing region, which includes the provinces of Rio Negro, La Pampa, and Neuquen, Humberto Canale was founded in 1909. The viticulture industry in the area was greatly influenced by Canale, the oldest winery in Patagonia.

Humberto Canale's family had immigrated to Argentina from Genoa around 1860. As the desert was conquered, Humberto developed into an engineer whose responsibility it was to put in place the irrigation systems for the area.
