Joseph Krug established the Champagne house known today as Krug in 1843. It is one of the renowned Champagne houses that made up the Grandes marques and has its main office in Reims, the capital of France's Champagne region.

The international corporation LVMH Moet Hennessy - Louis Vuitton S.E., whose portfolio also includes other well-known wine labels like Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Château d'Yquem, and Ruinart, currently owns the house in its entirety.

Despite LVMH's controlling ownership, the Krug family continues to actively participate in all of the house's important decisions but does not oversee daily operations.
