An utterly delicious, silky-soft, rounded, medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon The aromas are of juicy, ripe black cherries with barbecued green peppers and fine dark chocolate On the palate it shows excellent texture, with beautiful balance and integration of the flavours There is no hurry to drink this, but it's so irresistible, why would anyone want to wait?
Meinert Riesling 'The German Job' 2023 75cl
£15.96
A superb wine that goes superbly with food, in keeping with Meinert's style Flinty and waxy Riesling aromas, that give way to juicy lime and tropical fruit flavours Dry yet soft-textured, with good richness and sustain, and a wonderful overall sense of completeness
Meinert La Berry Sauvignon Blanc 2020 75cl
£11.60
Elderflower, citrus and crunchy mange-tout pea pod notes are supported by vibrant and rich-textured midpalate, making this a perfect stand-alone wine, or accompaniment for food As it ages, deeper mineral and flinty flavours are expressed La Berry is made almost entirely from Sauvignon Blanc from Meinert's vineyards in the cool-climate Elgin region, with added texture from a touch of Semillon and old vine Chenin Blanc To promote complexity, fruit is either whole-bunch pressed, macerated on skins for 24 hours or crushed and immediately pressed before being re-combined
Meinert Le Berry 75cl NV
£11.60
Le Berry Red is a sumptuous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot It has mature fruit, lavish coconut and butterscotch oak character and rounded, succulent texture It is made of Bordeaux grape varieties, but the style is reminiscent of old school Rioja
Meinert Sauvignon Blanc 2018 75cl
£14.65
This is a lovely, creamy-textured wine, which receives extended maturation to develop the evident richness in the mouth A slight smidgin of Semillon is also included, to further enhance the complexity and dimensions of flavour There are characteristic hints of green bean, okra and capsicum; however these are all in proportion and do not dominate Essential but understated is the vibrant, tingly acidity that unifies, freshens and centres the flavours and texture Bravo for the crafting of a Sauvignon with subtlety!
Meinert Syrah 'The Graduate' 2019 75cl
£24.00
A very attractive Syrah, with an exciting bouquet of lilies, cloves and cream Delicate and nuanced on the palate, it's more than a little reminiscent of Pinot Noir - not heavy, but with lots to unfold and savour It could in theory last 5-10 years, but it's so irresistible now that it probably won't get the chance The label does not say so due to South African wine regulations, but this is in fact a single-vineyard wine from a cool site in Hemel-en-Aarde The local climate means that ripening happens extremely late every year: around two weeks after all of Meinert's other fruit The highly extended growing season results in the wine's beautiful delicacy and fabulous intricacy of flavour Superb!
Meinert Synchronicity 2016 75cl
£47.32
Fabulously rich, complex and chocolatey, this is the deepest and most powerful of Martin Meinert's wines, and yet it retains the hallmark 'family likeness' of beautiful elegance and balance It has an amazing velvety texture that fills the mouth, yet leaves the palate feeling refreshed and clean Meinert's masterpiece!
Meinert Semillon Straw Wine 375cl 2015 37.5cl
£27.38
Amazing copper-gold colour Gorgeous, complex aromas of apple sauce with cinnamon, apricot jam, marmalade, hay bales and green Chartreuse Sweet and tangy on the palate, with quite amazing delicacy and refinement Wonderful flavours of bergamot, witch hazel and mint, and a slight drying tannin effect that helps balance the sweetness An exceptional wine
Meinert Chenin Blanc '6Chen' 2018 75cl
£44.00
A subtle Chenin Blanc from two mature vineyard sites that is fermented inside a concrete egg The nose shows promise, with suggestions of quince, pear and butterscotch; opening up to display a rich, toasty, mushroomy character Rich and weighty, it is leavened and knit-together with bright acidity Excellent persistence of flavour on the long finish Everything seems to imply that this will reward keeping a few years to enjoy all it has to offer
