Meinert Pinotage 'Printer's Ink' 2018 75cl
Meinert Pinotage 'Printer's Ink' 2018 75cl
£14.60
This is a fabulous Pinotage - one of the best we have ever tasted, including examples that cost considerably more than this Pinotage is Pinot Noir crossed with Cinsault, and this wine tastes exactly like that - it has the beautiful hedgerow fruit of Pinot Noir, seasoned with the liquorice and star anise spice of Cinsault Caressing the palate with Pinot's seductive silky softness, it has just a touch more roundness and body A succulent wine with beautiful balance and no hard edges Martin Meinert explained that the 'burnt rubber' flavour associated with Pinotage is in fact the taste of careless winemaking, to which this grape variety is highly sensitive By taking meticulous care of the fruit from picking all the way through the winemaking process, Meinert ensures that we get to experience its true - delicious - character The Printer's Ink name is a tribute to the Meinert family's heritage as master printers in Namibia

Meinert White Merlot 'The Italian Job' 2020 75cl
Meinert White Merlot 'The Italian Job' 2020 75cl
£26.65
This is an utterly delicious white that tastes very much like barrel-fermented Chardonnay - perhaps from Burgundy It is rich and sumptuous, with creme anglaise, pineapple, butter and delicate wood character Intense, with a sustained, flavoursome finish The wine's story makes it even more fascinating When visiting friends in Zurich, Martin Meinert was introduced to a white wine made with Merlot grapes from Ticino - the southern, Italian, part of Switzerland He loved it so much that he resolved to make one himself, with fantastic results (How to make a white wine with black grapes? Press promptly, and keep the juice and the skins separate to prevent the latter from tinting the former)

Meinert Sauvignon Blanc 2018 75cl
Meinert Sauvignon Blanc 2018 75cl
£14.65
This is a lovely, creamy-textured wine, which receives extended maturation to develop the evident richness in the mouth A slight smidgin of Semillon is also included, to further enhance the complexity and dimensions of flavour There are characteristic hints of green bean, okra and capsicum; however these are all in proportion and do not dominate Essential but understated is the vibrant, tingly acidity that unifies, freshens and centres the flavours and texture Bravo for the crafting of a Sauvignon with subtlety!

Meinert Syrah 'The Graduate' 2019 75cl
Meinert Syrah 'The Graduate' 2019 75cl
£24.00
A very attractive Syrah, with an exciting bouquet of lilies, cloves and cream Delicate and nuanced on the palate, it's more than a little reminiscent of Pinot Noir - not heavy, but with lots to unfold and savour It could in theory last 5-10 years, but it's so irresistible now that it probably won't get the chance The label does not say so due to South African wine regulations, but this is in fact a single-vineyard wine from a cool site in Hemel-en-Aarde The local climate means that ripening happens extremely late every year: around two weeks after all of Meinert's other fruit The highly extended growing season results in the wine's beautiful delicacy and fabulous intricacy of flavour Superb!

Meinert Chenin Blanc '6Chen' 2018 75cl
Meinert Chenin Blanc '6Chen' 2018 75cl
£44.00
A subtle Chenin Blanc from two mature vineyard sites that is fermented inside a concrete egg The nose shows promise, with suggestions of quince, pear and butterscotch; opening up to display a rich, toasty, mushroomy character Rich and weighty, it is leavened and knit-together with bright acidity Excellent persistence of flavour on the long finish Everything seems to imply that this will reward keeping a few years to enjoy all it has to offer
