George and Elli Tsimpidis started the Monemvasia Winery in 1997 in Monemvasia, Laconia. They made the enormous decision to build a winery from scratch, motivated by the myth of the Malvasia wine lost in time, love for their land, and faith in its potential.

They searched for native types and their ancient vinification techniques since they were so passionate and committed to bringing back the mediaeval Malvasia. Monemvasia, Kydonitsa, Asproudi, and Mavroudi were developed as a result of their exploration and experimentation with the region's ancient, unique types.

But that is not where the narrative ends. The family expanded along with the harvest, knowledge, and love of wine.

Marialena, Anastasia, and Andreas Andresakis, who studied oenology and brought a thirst for experimentation, were added to the team, which was led by George and Elli and highlighted the region and goals for environmentally friendly practises and actions in the Local community. Marialena and Anastasia studied agronomy and chemistry, respectively.

With its scents, intensity, and late nights with a glass of wine, the harvest and pressing are their favourite parts.
