In 1715, land registries for the first time recorded the name Quinta do Noval.

António José da Silva, a port shipper from Porto, purchased Quinta do Noval in 1894 after it had been devastated by phylloxera, leaving his stamp on the history of the property. By replanting the vines, he made the property look better.

His son-in-law, Luiz Vasconcelos Porto, was the creator of an extensive plan of inventions. He transformed many of the older, narrow terraces into wider terraces. As a result, the land could be used more effectively and had better solar exposure.

Quinta do Noval gained notoriety when it released the Quinta do Noval Vintage Port and Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port in 1931. Most shippers did not declare the 1931 because of the global depression and the massive production and transport of the 1927 Vintage.

This achievement positioned Quinta do Noval among the top Vintage Port brands in the English and American markets, a position of distinction that is still held today.
