In 1958, the Cooperativa Santo Isidro de Pegoes was established. The 140 winegrowers who make up the cooperative have access to more than 1100 hectares of vineyard in the Terras do Sado region of the Setubal peninsula.

Sandy soils rich in minerals and cooling Atlantic winds are advantages for this coastal region. One of Portugal's most progressive cooperatives,

Santo Isidro de Pegoes, is led by one of the country's most renowned winemakers, Jaime Quendera.

The Tagus Estuary to the northwest and the Sado to the southwest are the two Nature Reserves that border the Pegoes Vineyard. The Arrabida hills lie to the east, and the clays of the Alentejo province are to the west.

The 'Pliocenico de Pegoes' soil is renowned for being special. Sand carried by the rivers Tagus and Sado over millions of years created the sandy soil. This distinctive Pegoes terroir is a result of the soil's Mediterranean environment.
