Dermot Sugrue, a renowned English sparkling wine producer, created Sugrue South Downs as a personal endeavour.

Over the past ten years, Sugrue has produced many of England's top sparkling wines. In order to start the Wiston Estate Winery, the former winemaker of Nyetimber departed the company in 2006. The same year, he also developed a one-hectare vineyard near Storrington Priory, which has been producing sparkling wine 'The Trouble with Dreams' since 2009 and has won numerous awards.

The genuinely remarkable "The Trouble with Dreams 2013" won the Independent English Wine Awards in 2017, the 2014 vintage received a Gold medal in 2019, and most recently, Sugrue received Hugh Johnson's top score of all English wine makers.
