The Eguren family's newest property in the Toro region is Teso La Monja. The Eguren family fell in love with this country more than 15 years ago, drawn in by the scenery, the region's historic vineyards, and the depth and complexity of its wines, despite the fact that they are headquartered in Sierra Cantabria, La Rioja.

The Eguren family has made an investment in the Toro region twice. In 1998, Marcos and Miguel Eguren established Numanthia-Termes, their original Toro estate. In 2007, after selling it to LVMH, they started Teso La Monja. Their devotion to Toro never wavered, but Teso La Monja was conceived with a different outlook. The Tempranillo (Tinta De Toro) grapes' deep roots translate the pristine minerality of the soil into powerful yet elegant red wines.

The vineyards are 50 years old on average, but some are pre-phylloxera, ungrafted vines that are 130 years old or older. Loam and gravel soils that face north allow for longer growing seasons, resulting in rich, well-balanced wines that express the full minerality of the soils. The Egurens labour in accordance with the cycles and biorhythms of the vines and employ the same sustainable agricultural practises as their forefathers to maintain the vineyard's natural equilibrium.
