In the Alta Estremadura, close to Lisbon, José Ribeiro Vieira invested in a four-hectare vineyard at the base of the Serra de Aire of Cortes. In these hillsides, there is a tiny, old vineyard by the name of Vale da Mata. It honours Manuel Vieira, who made wine and said that Vale de Mata was the location where he was successful in making his best wines.

With little intervention in the winery and sustainable vine cultivation, the Vale de Mata project honours the character of its terroir.

The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability project includes Vale de Mata. This wine was given its name by Manuel, and his granddaughter Catarina Viera has carried on his winemaking history by doing the same.
