Under Johannes Leitz's leadership, Weingut Leitz has established a reputation as one of the best producers in Germany and one of the top growers in the Rheingau.

With the majority of his holdings being Grand Cru locations on the Rüdesheimer Berg slopes, Johannes has increased his holdings from 2.6 hectares when he took over his family's estate in 1985 to over 40.

In the decades after World War II, the region that had once produced some of the most costly and sought-after wines in the world declined to mediocrity. Josi has dedicated his life to showcasing the actual potential of the Rheingau and reclaiming the intrinsic value of his native terroir.

The whole Leitz estate vineyards, which include the Grand Crus of Schlossberg, Rottland, and Roseneck, are located on the Rüdesheimer Berg, which is a steep, south-facing hillside made of exceedingly old slate and quartzite.

In contrast to the majority of Rheingau growers, Leitz trains his vines in a single-cane, cordon system to enhance the quality and character of the fruit. This practise has traditionally been to prioritise yield via a double-cane method. Johannes is adamant that the vigneron's essential labour is done in the vineyards.

These historic vineyards are focused on cultivating as responsibly as possible, and the arduous hours of labour on the extremely steep hills enable them to realise their full potential.

The prestigious Gault Millau named Johannes "Winemaker of the Year" in 2011. We are beyond thrilled to contribute in any way to the Leitz initiative.  These, in our opinion, are some of the world's best white wines.
