Weingut Monchhof
Weingut Monchhof wines from Great Wines Direct
One of the oldest wine estates in the Mosel Valley, the Monchhof (translates as "Monks Court") was established in 1177 and was previously a part of the Cistercian Abbey at Himmerod.
The steep slopes of the Ürziger Würzgarten, Erdener Treppchen, and a core holding in the highly coveted Erdener Prälat vineyard make up Weingut Monchhof's first-rate vineyards.
Napoleon sold the estate to the Eymael family in 1804, and the family has owned it ever since. A group of investors who were wine enthusiasts inherited the Monchhof after the last member of the Eymael family passed away without leaving an heir.
Winemaker Philippe Conzen oversees the monchhof winery now, assisted by Volker Berres, the vineyard manager, and cellar worker Remigius Schetter. Both have been employed at the winery since the 1980s and are familiar with every grape. Together, they create exquisite Riesling wines that are the pinnacle of sophistication and flair.
