Yves' great-grandfather Claude Cuilleron established the domaine Yves Cuilleron in 1920 in Verlieu, a village in the French commune of Chavanay in the Rhône-Alps. In 1960, Yves' uncle Antoine assumed control of the estate.
Yves received his engineering training, but the allure of his ancestry lured him back, and he assumed control of the family estate, which at the time covered merely 3.5 hectares in Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, in 1987. at addition to purchasing new vineyards, Yves constructed a new winery at Chavanay.
